Happy 2018! We hope everyone had a great New Year’s Day. With the new year here, many of us now have to start working on those resolutions we set for ourselves. Some of you may want to start exercising more or spending more time with your family, but how many of you are focusing more on your dental health?
Maintaining a healthy life also means keeping your mouth healthy. The good news is that taking proper care of your teeth and gums only take a few minutes each day. So what should you focus on to improve your dental health?
Make sure you are flossing
Flossing is vital for removing bacteria around your gums and between your teeth that brushing cannot get rid of. Flossing also helps decrease your chances of getting gum disease and tooth decay.
Choose mouth-healthy food
Choosing to eat healthier food is a common goal for many people, but we typically do not think about how the food we eat is affecting our teeth. Fibrous foods and dairy products are great additions to your diet if you are looking for food that can be beneficial to your teeth. Cutting back on the sugary foods and sweets is also a good way to keep your teeth healthy.
Go to the dentist
Practicing proper dental hygiene is important, but visiting the dentist for a cleaning and check-up is just as important as brushing and flossing twice per day. Your dentist will be able to treat any problems that may be occurring and can spot signs of dental health problems that you may not even notice yourself.
Is improving your dental health part of your New Year's resolution?
If you want to start your new year healthier, be sure to schedule an appointment with Dr. Samuels in Rockville, MD.
