If you have been looking for a way to improve your smile, dental implants may be able to help. Whether you have been interested in the past about dental implants or are just thinking about getting them now, we want to share some important information with you.
There are two different kinds of dental implants that you should be aware of, endosteal and subperiosteal. Endosteal implants use screws or blades that are fastened to your jaw bone. These implants will be used as the base for several teeth.
Subperiosteal implants are good for individuals that do not have a strong jaw bone to support the endosteal implants. Subperiosteal implants use metal wires and your gums to support the implant.
So how does this dental procedure work?
Your tooth will be removed
The dentist will prepare your jaw bone for the procedure
Once your jaw bone has healed, your dentist will install the implant
After the implant has healed, the dentist will place an abutment (this will hold the fake tooth) on the implant
Then your new tooth will be set in place
Following this procedure, regular dental appointments are recommended in order to ensure the dental implant is working properly. You should treat your dental implant just like you would your normal teeth, so brushing and flossing are still necessary.
