The new year is almost a month in. How are you doing on your New Year’s resolution? Many people’s resolution is to be healthier in 2017! Dr. Samuels wants to offer a few tips to help you reach your New Year’s resolution goal.

ONE: Try to build stronger relationships.

There are scientific studies that show people who have better relationships with one another live a longer life. Everyone has someone with whom they have fallen out of touch with. Maybe it was your first friend in grade school, the group you went to Senior homecoming with, or your dormmate in college. Regardless of who it is, try reaching out and reconnecting. Healthy relationships could mean a healthier you. (If, for some reason, you haven’t seen your dentist in the last year, your dentist is someone you should reconnect with.)

TWO: Try to eat healthier.

No, you don’t need a strict diet out of a book or an app on your phone. A good way to eat healthier is to budget your calories like your budget your money. Doing so will help you from overeating and taking in more calories than you can burn. For example, if you eat too many calories at lunch, cut back at dinner. One tip to limit your calorie intake is to fill half your plate with vegetables. Veggies fill you up quicker and contain less calories than other foods.

THREE: Try to eat breakfast every day.

Yes, it’s true: it is the most important meal of the day. Eating breakfast helps you have more energy in the morning and keep you from overeating at lunchtime. Doing this will help you better allocate your calories throughout the day.

Dr. Samuels hopes that these three tips can help get you on track for your New Year’s resolution. In addition to these three tips, remember that your oral health is imperative to your overall health. If you stopped going to the dentist, 2017 is a great time to start again. We always welcome new patients. Feel free to contact us today to schedule an appointment at our office in Rockville, MD.
